Day20 Bercianos del Real Camino to Mansilla de las Mulas

A very long, straight, boring, mindless, windy kind of walking day!

Now I know what it’s like to walk through a wind tunnel all day! Winds up to 110K an hour. Relentless and it never stopped for any respite. The road was so straight and went on forever! Same old, same old. I’m beginning to appreciate why a lot of pilgrims skip this part of the Camino! I got so excited when I saw a bend in the road not one but two as we traversed under the railway track.

Fabulous first stop the little bar was packed with pilgrims and the selection and quality of food was superb. There was a billy bonus too! This was by far the best toilet ever on the Camino, very clean, toilet roll, hot and cold water, soap and towels to dry your hands. A definite 12 out of 10. It’s the little things that make my day!

Coffee ☕️ and fed and with the biggest bocadillo in my bag for lunch I was ready for the off. As I said earlier today was challenging for many reasons the silver lining today was NO RAIN!

Another good stop in Reliegos, where I caught up with the lovely Maria, what a woman so full of life. I had lunch with Louise from Australia and we walked the last leg into Mansilla. Forgot to take a photo! Hopefully I’ll catch up with her again soon.

Can you believe it my lovelies. I’ve just caused world war 3 in Mansilla! I’m to blame as I went to the wrong albergue with a similar name! 🤦‍♀️ everyone is crying even me! Having a glass of Rioja to calm down! FFS 🤦‍♀️ I’m normally on the ball with this sort of stuff. It must be the effect of the wind tunnel I’ve just walked through all day or the Meseta!

I found a florist open! Bought some flowers and walked back to the first albergue to apologise again for my mistake. This lady was so kind to me she didn’t deserve to be shouted at! More tears! I felt a bit better as I left.

Mansilla is steeped in Camino history, lovely town with small colourful narrow streets and interesting old buildings.  I’m in a really old Spanish albergue, which is full of character and characters. 🍷

Great supper tonight. The one thing I’ve learned over the past two weeks when food is in front of you eat because you need to keep your strength and stamina up!

Buen Camino 😘
