You start walking in the morning knowing you’re going to hit 14 plus by lunchtime. It’s a rhythm thing, however as the afternoon goes on the kilometres feel bloody long! That was the case today as it was a long auld tromp to Hontanas.
It was really lovely to start todays walk with Dom, he joined me on the Camino as I walked out of Burgos. As usual I was taking a lot of pictures. Dom said how on Earth do you ever get out of a place! Well I do and when it was time for Dom to leave me I hugged him so tight I didn’t want to let go. I started leaking, which threw Dom A little. Hey ho off I have to go.
It’s bleak but beautiful walking through this landscape, it’s the start of the Meseta so it’s going to be repeated until I reach León, where I’m hoping the landscape will begin to change.
I caught up with Mike and his son Sam at the first stop today, we walked along todays path for a little while laughing and joking as we went along. In such a short time you really bond with pilgrims and there is a lot of comfort and encouragement as you progress
I plugged in to an audible download book “Where The Crawdad Sings”, which distracted me enough to get through! I have to say it was tough walking into Hontanas downhill 🤦♀️
I’m more than 300Km in now and in a few days it’ll be the half way point! Can you believe it!
My refuge tonight is really lovely and I’m super happy as I type this having a few sips of the obligatory glass of wine 🍷 I’m eating here tonight from the pilgrims menu, which my lovelies are not only great value but really good too 😋
It won’t be a late night as I have another long day tomorrow. See you all on the Camino tomorrow 😘
TTFN Buen Camino 😘
