A 07.30 start this morning as I had breakfast at the hotel. Walking through Santo Domingo de La Calzada was magical. The narrow streets with beautiful old buildings not to mention the lighting along the way. Quiet and still all around apart from the tip tap of rhythmic walking poles along the path.
Wow! What a walk. It was a kind of beige and brown kind of day with a huge blue sky. The landscape was very dusty, dry and arid. It felt like one of Barnett Newmans painting surfaces.
You can sense the sun is rising even though it’s dark. Bonkers I know as I kept looking back! No disappointment today majestic as she rose shimmering behind Santo Domingo de la Calzada
First stop of the day just 6KM out of town where many familiar faces were drinking coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice, which by the way is bloody delicious.
I have to say these little villages are very charming and have a certain je ne sais quoi about them. The higgledy piggledy hotchpotch of houses with colourful and fragrant balconies blooming like they should be in Chelsea, delightful.
Today’s walk was very beige and brown, dry, dusty and very arid. Easy walking albeit next to the main N120, being serenaded by the sound of constant traffic is quite draining. Straight, straight path, you could see going on for ever in the distance! It was a long slog today and I’m glad I’ve downloaded a couple of audible books for when I walk the Meseta, which is very similar to todays walk!
Belorado is a beautiful village belonging to the Province of Burgos. It is also known for being a city in the Way of Saint James, and for its annual Feria Alfonsina festival.
The church bells are chiming as I type, I’m clean, I have a full belly me thinks it’s time for bed my lovelies.
P. S. My hotel is just perfect 🤩
Buen Camino 😘
